In the News
The National Hunt Season might be at an end, but the new season has already started again. Looking back at last season, we did very well. Twelve wins from 55 runners in the UK and over 100k in prize money are some great figures considering we don’t have a massive amount of horses. We are very lucky to have some talented ones though. Dame Rose won our first ever Graded race at Aintree to add to her earlier bumper win at Doncaster, while Valadom snatched Bangor’s most valuable race and one at Uttoxeter. Tahira grabbed a Listed race at the Betfair Chase meeting at Haydock and Caprice D’Anglais won three races for us before leaving the yard. Chic Name got his name on the board in a good chase at Newbury and our last horse to reach the winners enclosure was way back in May last year when Ceporine won at Fakenham.
Not bad for a relatively small team, but we are expanding. Carl Hinchy, who owns Dame Rose and Tahira with us, has sent over some horses from Rebecca Curtis’ yard and we’ve already added one of those to our list of winners with Ramonex winning on debut at Perth. We’re looking forward to get a few more over the summer and I’d imagine there’ll be a few trips to France on the horizon where the ground is more suited for summer jumping.
The season might only just have finished, but we’re already gearing up for the next!
Last week’s runners
Petiville ran a pretty good race in the Maiden Hurdle at Perth today, finishing third on his first try over two mile four. He stayed on well over two miles last time to warrant this step up in trip and although he couldn’t quite show the best of his stamina in a slowly run race, he ran well. He didn’t jump the two hurdles in the straight fluently, but he was beaten less than two lengths in the end and perhaps in a more strongly run race he could find a bit more improvement.
Ramonex made his debut for us in taking style, winning the opener at Perth on Thursday. Alain Cawley had him in a prominent position throughout as he went toe-to-toe with the short priced favourite. He jumped pretty well, travelled strongly and had plenty left on the run in to go and assert. He won by just under four lengths in the end and he kept on well towards the line. Not sure where we’ll go from here, but he might even be suited by stepping up in trip.
We had two declared on the Friday, but Going Gold was pulled due to the going. The ground was drying up and we weren’t keen to run on ground that was too quick.
That left us with Definite Outcome, another who joined us from Rebecca Curtis and he ran well for a long way. He led for a long time, but he was eventually overtaken and unable to go with the leader. He was rallying again on the run in, looking to contest second, but he took a crashing fall at the last. Thankfully he got up ok and he’s none the worse.
This week’s runners
Only one declared for this week, Racing Pulse is another who has joined us in the last few weeks and he’s declared in the Staffordshire Plate at Uttoxeter on Saturday. He’s not been in any sort of form of late, but hopefully a change of surroundings will do him good. We could probably do with a bit of rain for him, although he has won on good ground previously. He does get a nice racing weight of 10-3, although he’s got some stiff competition to face. Hopefully he can make the most of his featherweight though and put up a big performance.
