In the News
A big meeting at Newton Abbot this week, with plenty of prize money on offer. The course have committed to a million pounds worth of prize money over this summer’s racing and are also putting on free meals for stable staff. As such there’s plenty of highly regarded entries for the card there on Wednesday, including two of our own horses, but it will make it trickier to win races! In any case, it’s a fantastic effort from the track to commit such funds to racing and hopefully we’ll see more of the same from other tracks around the country.
Otherwise, it’s been a fairly quiet week for us with no runners last week, but we’ve got a few entries this week to look forward to.
Last week’s runners
Racing Pulse did not take up his entry in the Staffordshire Plate.
This week’s runners
Quite a few entries this week, starting with Racing Pulse in the Norfolk National over three mile five at Fakenham. He has to burden near top weight (11-12) for the race as it stands, but Hugo Hunt claims a useful seven lbs off. He rode some cracking races for us last season on Chic Name and Caprice D’Anglais to guide both to victory, so he’s well worth his claim. As for Racing Pulse himself, he’s one of Carl Hinchy’s that have joined us and hopefully the new surroundings can guide him back to a bit of form. He ran alright at the start of the last season when he was brought down at the Open Meeting at Cheltenham, so hopefully he can run a big race.
Highway Storm is another new recruit and he has two entries this week, at Newton Abbot on Wednesday and Carlisle on Thursday. He won on his penultimate start at Ffos Las in soft ground (having also won there on heavy), so current underfoot conditions might not be ideal for him and we’ll keep a close eye on that before deciding whether or not we’ll run. He would get a lovely racing weight for the race at Newton Abbot, but it’s a strong race, so that might not be enough to claim the spoils.
Ramonex, a winner a few weeks ago at Perth, also has entries at Carlisle and Newton Abbot and we’re leaning towards the former race at this point. The two mile three trip at Carlisle should suit him well, judging on his staying on strongly at Perth. He does get a seven lbs penalty for that race, but it looks a lot weaker than the race at Newton Abbot and he should be able to go close in that. Alain Cawley will take the ride.
