In the News
After a quiet time with horses running well, but not quite making it home in first, all of a sudden we found ourselves in the winners enclosure more than once. First up in France where Dortmund Park, racing in our colours, but trained by Fabrice Foucher, bolted up in the Grand Course des AQPS (French Champion Bumper). He travelled smoothly through his race and found an extra gear turning for home that left his challengers in his wake. He won by seven lengths in the end and we’re excited to see where he can go from here.
Back from France we made the long journey to Hexham and came away with two winners as well, both Surf and Turf and Petiville sealing the deal up North. It’s funny how you have no winners for a while and then all of a sudden they come along in a group. Let’s hope we can kick on from here and find a few more as the season progresses.
Last week’s runners
As already mentioned Surf And Turf ran out victorious at Hexham after a stone bruise had ruled him out of Southwell earlier in the week. Thankfully this cleared up in time for the long journey up North as he made light work of his opposition. Travelling and jumping well throughout, he cruised into the lead under Jamie Bargary after three out and drew clear before the last to romp home by seven lengths. He may be getting on a bit at eleven, but given a low weight and good ground and he’s still good enough to win races as he showed here. He certainly seemed pleased with himself.
Petiville made it two from two in the race following Surf and Turf and again Jamie Bargary was the man in the plate. Content this time to let others do the donkey work out front, Jamie sat in the middle of the field before making his move approaching two out. Petiville responded beautifully to his call and although he had to keep him up to work right to the line, he won comfortably enough in the end. It’s great to finally see him off the mark as he’s been running very well without quite getting his head in front. He’s made the frame in all five starts for us and we couldn’t have asked for more than that.
This week’s runners
Surf and Turf is our only horse entered this week with a pair of entries at Worcester on Sunday. Both entries are over two mile four, one over fences and one over hurdles and both of them look competitive enough. But if his form last week is anything to go on, he’s in great shape and hopefully he can follow up his win with another good performance at Worcester.
